We had a great time at a "black tie" Christmas function! Good company, acceptable club food, rousing singing of Christmas carols, a few jokes (most of which were actually funny, or so they appeared at the time) and free-flowing wine (but I was driving, so I was careful). We lingered for a little while after the main part of the evening ended when there was some impromptu singing (over port). Even though we were in a good mood, we were sufficiently in possession of our senses to refrain from participating and to remain as observers!
