Melbourne Cup
I had thought of posting my thoughts about the Melbourne Cup before the race - but it's just as well I didn't. Our favoured horse (Mount Athos) came 5th, and the other horses that we fancied (as well as the couple we had in a sweep) all finished even further back. Green Moon didn't even cross our minds. So, financially, we finished in negative territory!
But at least we were at a barbeque, and watched the race and festivities in comfort and in good company. The host had bought some Lotto tickets which he syndicated. Given that the top division had a prize pool of $100 million or thereabouts, we thought that this would be a good way to recoup our losses.....such is wishful thinking! This investment didn't return a cent, either!
